Recentering Through Change
Over the past couple of posts, we’ve been exploring how nature’s wisdom can help us meet change differently.
First, you practiced noticing your response patterns. Then, we began working with two Human Elements:
Spirit — the freedom to imagine what is possible
Body — the structure that brings possibility into reality
Today, we’ll add two more:
Human Emotions — your inner Water
Human Heart-Mind — your inner Air
Emotions & Water
The energy of Water and Emotions is flow, curiosity, trust, and growth.
Water does not cling to one path. It moves with trust — bending, rushing, carving new channels, and always finding a way forward.
Our emotions are meant to move in much the same way. When we let ourselves feel deeply, they can reveal what matters, loosen what has been held, and carry us toward growth.
When feelings are held too tightly, they can circle within us like water trapped in a stagnant eddy, unable to carry us forward.
Water and Emotions invite us to ask:
What am I truly feeling right now?
Can I let this feeling move through me while staying curious about what it is showing me?
Heart-Mind & Air
The energy of Air and Heart-Mind is the knowing that rises through the open heart — and the courage to follow it.
Air enters through the breath, carrying life into our lungs, blood, and cells. When the heart opens, a deeper intelligence presents itself: sometimes clear and immediate, sometimes quiet like a whisper on the wind.
This inner knowing lives beneath social expectations, “shoulds,” “coulds,” and the churn of second-guessing. Where animals move through instinct, humans can access Heart-knowing — the deep sense that says, this way.
Heart-Mind and Air invite us to ask:
What do I know in my heart to be true?
What clear step can I take from that knowing?
A Living Map of Balance
In the Earth-wise tradition I teach, we work with visual maps of consciousness connecting what lives around us in nature with what lives within us, taking the shape of a Wheel.
The Human Elements form one of these Wheels. Imagine the merry-go-round divided into four parts, each holding Spirit, Body, Emotions, or Heart-Mind.
When all four are alive and working together, the ride stays smooth and the center remains within reach.
Yet, when even one becomes diminished, the ride begins to feel more like a tilt-o-whirl: the ground shifts, the center slips away, and life can feel dizzying and aimless amid the changes spinning around us.
An Integrated Practice
Over the next week or two, I invite you to check in with your inner Wheel — perhaps in the morning, or whenever change pulls you away from center.
Consider the notion that balance is an ongoing practice of noticing and adjusting from within — mirroring Mother Nature as she bends, sheds, rests, erupts, replenishes, and begins again.
Notice whether this practice helps you move closer to nature’s rhythm:
Pause → Rebalance → Act
rather than:
Shock → Act → Burnout → Repeat
And offer yourself grace if you’re not seeing big changes right away. These signals are not signs of failure. They are part of your own internal feedback system, revealing what may need your attention.
An Invitation to Go Deeper
It is one thing to encounter these teachings on a page and another to feel them begin to stir something within you.
Perhaps you’ve noticed a quiet whisper from the heart — a sense that something is shifting, asking for attention, or calling you toward a different way of moving through life.
If you feel curious about that whisper, I invite you to schedule a complimentary 20-minute Discovery Conversation with me.
This is a gentle space to share what is unfolding, learn more about the kind of guidance I offer, and explore how these Wheels and individualized support might serve the path taking shape before you.
No pressure. Just an opening.
For now, keep practicing.
Pause. Listen. Rebalance. Return to center.
The map is already within you — and Mother Nature is always here to help you remember.
With warmth and resonance, Annie
